Do we need a national breastfeeding strategy? 12 May 2006
A group of mothers is gathering an online petition for delivery at Number 10 Downing Street calling for the implementation of a National Breastfeeding Strategy in England.

They argue action is needed to tackle our low rates of breastfeeding, one of the lowest in Europe.

But do we really need a national strategy promoting breastfeeding when some mothers feel 鈥渢he breastfeeding mafia鈥 is already exerting too much pressure? And why don鈥檛 women talk about the realities of breastfeeding more, is it one of the last taboos?

To discuss, Woman's Hour is joined by Alison Baum,听founder of "Express Yourself Mums"听and Brownwen Eyre, journalist.
