The barriers facing female offenders, victims and workers
A wide-ranging report by the Fawcett Society claims that deeply embedded ‘institutional sexism’ towards women across the criminal justice system is holding back progress in this area. The report says that despite genuine improvements in policy over the last five years, the criminal justice system still fails to address the causes of women’s offending; fails to provide female victims of violence with justice and adequate support; and fails to allow women working within the system to progress in their careers. Katherine Rake, Director of the Fawcett Society, joins Jenni to discuss what needs to done to improve a system ‘designed by men, for men’.
