Future of Children's Care Homes I Oct 2009
Are children better off in care than with vulnerable parents?

A new听style of residential care homes for children is being introduced in the UK, which it is said could听improve the chances of young people taken into care. They are based on a system used successfully on the continent, where听in Denmark for example sixty percent听of care leavers go on to higher education, compared to six percent听here.听 Judy Merry visits Kinder House, one of the new residential care homes just opened in听Wallasey, Cheshire.听In the light of a series of shocking cases of abuse such as the death of Baby Peter. Is this model of care the answer to breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect? Jenni听will be discussing the issues with Martin Narey, Chief Executive of Barnardo's and Dawn Howley, care leaver and volunteer with Kids Company.
