Food
The renaissance of the egg 08 Feb 2010
eggs
This versatile food is more popular than ever

Last week it was reported听that during her first year in office, Mrs Thatcher had written out a diet consisting mainly of eggs; two for breakfast and two for lunch with a normal meal at dinner time. 听This meant she was eating at least 28 eggs a week.听But how healthy is it to eat so many eggs? Undoubtedly they鈥檙e a very versatile and cheap food but they鈥檝e had a bad press in recent years. To take a听look at eggs, Edwina Currie talks about the salmonella scare and Mrs Thatcher鈥檚 egg diet and Jane is joined by nutritionist Kat McDonald and the听chef and food writer Sybil Kapoor, who will be cooking up some egg recipes.
