A compost heap used to be a regular site in Britain – steaming happily at the bottom of gardens and allotments. It tended to be the preserve of the larger plot and was more often than not tended lovingly by a male gardener. Now more and more of us are taking up composting – councils are encouraging us to do it, because it makes us recycle much of the food and rubbish we normally throw in the bin. Kim Garner from Kenilworth near Warwick is a Master Composter – she encourages people to take up the joys of composting and helps them through any difficulties they might be having with their compost heap.
