The Front Garden 06 September 2007
Edith Terrace front gardens - part of the National Garden's Scheme
How can we prevent its demise?

Front gardens are disappearing from our suburbs, but used to be our pride and joy. It is thought they provide a vital social space and also protect our towns and cities from flooding, but many of us are choosing to replace them with concrete and cars. Jenny Uglow, author of A Little History of British Gardening, and Diane Anderson, a lecturer in horticulture at Askham Bryan College in York, join Miriam to discuss a very British gardening tradition.

A Little History of British Gardening by Jenny Uglow is published by Chatto & Windus, ISBN 0-701-16928-1
