Maasai girls' resistance group
Female genital cutting was outlawed in Kenya in 2001, however,听many communities, such as the Pokots and the Maasai, continue to practice FGC as an important rite of passage to womanhood. A 2005 survey of the Maasai community in Ol Donyo Nyokie, in central Kenya鈥檚 Kajiado district, found that听every girl听above the age of 15 had undergone the procedure. Reporter Angela Robson听talked to a group of girls in Narok, south-west Kenya, who have denounced the practice, amidst wide-spread condemnation from their community. |
