Education
Women Heads 13 Jul 2009
Would you be a headteacher?

With a generation of head teachers approaching retirement, the National College for School Leadership is calling on more women to take up leadership roles. Latest statistics show that only 37% of secondary school heads are female although 59% of secondary teachers are women. Why are women reluctant to take up these leadership roles? And if some Deputy Headteachers don鈥檛 want to become heads, where does the next generation听come from? To discuss the issues Jane is joined by Margaret Farrar from the National College of School Leadership, Dr Marianne Coleman from the Institute of Education and Joan McVittie, Head Teacher of Woodside High School in London.

'Women as Headteachers: Striking the balance' iby Marianne Coleman s published by Trentham Books Ltd ISBN-10: 1858562589
