History
The Scottish Suffrage Movement 13听Nov 2009
Princes St, Edinburgh Sufragette march of 1909
The Scottish Suffragettes

A hundred years ago one of the biggest female suffrage marches was held in Britain, 听not in London or in Manchester, but in Edinburgh. Five thousand women turned out, lead by the formidable Flora Drummond on horseback. She created a stir by riding astride, as opposed to side saddle, as befits a lady. That famous march has been re-enacted, again thousands of women turned out. The idea is to encourage more Scottish women to get involved in politics and to vote as听far听fewer Scottish women go to than ballot box than Scottish men. Dr Elspeth King, Director of the Stirlingsmith art Gallery and Museum and Cathy Peattie, Labour MSP for Falkirk East join Jenni to discuss.
