The Washing Line 19 Nov 2009
Is it time to ditch the dryer?

We all know it鈥檚 environmentally sound to peg out, but听is the British weather a legitimate excuse for the perpetual rumble of the tumble dryer in our homes? Why do so many of us loathe drying clothes indoors? And why are many people prevented from putting lines outside? Writer Sharon Griffiths explains why she loves her washing line.听 Jenni is then听joined by Professor Elizabeth Shove of Lancaster University, and author of 'Comfort, Cleanliness and Convenience'; and Bernadette Vallely, Chair of the Women's Environmental Network, to discuss the ethics of drying with or without electrical assistance.
