40 years of the Open University 10 December 2009
How has it changed women鈥檚 lives?

The Open University was the world's first successful distance teaching university, set up by Jennie Lee, a Minister in the Department of Education and Science under Harold Wilson. It has just celebrated its 40th year, and in that time many people have benefitted from the opportunity to study remotely, women in particular.听Jenni takes a look back at how听the OU听began and the impact it has had on听women's lives with听its former Vice Chancellor Professor Brenda Gourley, and current Head of Sociology Professor Kath Woodward.
