Boy babysitters 30 Dec 2009

Training course to teach boys the basics of babysitting

At this time of year, with New Year’s Eve coming up, babysitters are much in demand. Traditionally, the job’s been a way for teenaged girls to make a bit of extra money, but more and more boys are also keen to take on the role. Rightly or wrongly, it is often felt that girls will ‘just know’ how to look after young children, whereas boys are perhaps not seen as natural carers in quite the same way.ÌýÌýÌýA mother-of-two from Wimbledon in South West London has set up a training course, called Safe Sitters, to give potential babysitters the basic information they need to get started. Mary Fitzhenry says boys can be just as good at babysitting as girls. Louise Adamson has been along to find out what the boys are learning and what they feel they have to offer as babysitters.
