The dinner party has been described as the ultimate suburban ritual where couples sit around discussing house prices and their latest career moves. But researchers at Manchester University suggest that the dinner party is in decline. We spend nearly an hour less entertaining friends or dining at their homes each week than we did 30 years ago. Meanwhile, the time we spend eating out has nearly doubled since 1975. So should we be mourning the demise of this institution?
Jenni discusses the attractions and drawbacks of catering at home with comedy actress Emma Kennedy and author Kathy Lette. |
