If you think that spring cleaning your home is a chore, imagine cleaning a stately home or an historic house. The National Trust have recently compiled a manual of housekeeping containing lots of useful tips gleaned from years of experience. You can find out how to buff your brasses, shine your chandeliers or preserve the family silver.
In the next in our series Sue Elliott Nicholls went to Ham House near Richard in Surrey. In the bedroom of the Duchess of Lauderdale, she met up with the Collections and House Manager Caroline Ikin and Helen Lloyd the Deputy Head Conservator, to find out the best way to look after textiles.
'The National Trust Manual of Housekeeping' is published by Elsevier; ISBN: 0750655291
