The Green Queen: Teaching children about the natural world |
08 Jun 2006 |

Nicola Harrison has turned her suburban garden into a wildlife haven, no regimented lines of lupins and hollyhocks for her. Instead the garden's main function is less about aesthetics and more about sustaining the birds, bees and butterflies. Nicola has also set up the Green Queen project dedicated to creating better urban habitats for wildlife. This involves the 'wilding over' of small corners of gardens, school grounds and parks.
Nicola dresses up as 'The Green Queen' and teaches children about the natural world around them and how to care for it. She's also a mezzo soprano and says her music is an important part of her philosophy on nature. |
