Coastal erosion has always been a problem for the east of England, but in recent years some areas have seen dramatic changes to the shape of the North Sea coastline.听
One of the worst affected areas is East Yorkshire. In the last five years it鈥檚 lost a number of buildings to the sea, including an hotel.听Some villages and towns have been protected by sea defences, but these and off-shore gravel extraction have been blamed for the worsening conditions.
Lyz Turner is a small holder who lives a few miles south of Withernsea near Hull.听 She regularly sees her land claimed by the sea. Jill Hopkins walked with her as she gauged the sea's progress to her farm buildings. |
