Kensington Palace has been home to many royal women – from Queen Victoria’s daughters Beatrice and Louise to some favourite mistresses of the Georges – and of course to Diana Princess of Wales. This month the Palace welcomes a new royal queen – Dido, Queen of Carthage. At night audiences follow Christopher Marlowe’s tragic queen through twelve magnificent rooms. The promenade performance is the brainchild of the company angels in the architecture. Judi Herman follows in the footsteps of the two women behind angels in the architecture, director Rebecca McCutcheon and Sarah Thom, who plays Dido.
Dido Queen of Carthage opens 1 February and runs until 23 February
