Daleswoman Hannah Hauxwell 20 MarchÌý2008
Yorkshire Dales
Stars in new tv documentary

In the 1970's Hannah Hauxwell went from hill-farming daleswoman to television star overnight . A documentary highlighted her life of poverty and hardship, struggling to run an 80 acre farm in the north Pennines. She had no electricity or running water and survived on less than £200 a year. ÌýHannah’s plight and her engaging personality gripped millions of television viewers and she became a celebrity – appearing on This is Your Life, and touring Europe for a travel series.Ìý Eventually she left the farm to live a quiet life in a nearby village – though she still receives letters from across the world from fans . Thirty five years on, a new tv programme has been made to reflect on those changes and talk about her life now. Mark Holdstock has been talking to Hannah – now in her 80’s - at her cottage in Teesdale. After years of isolation on her hill farm, what was it like when the cameras first arrived?
