History
World War II Widows 9 Sept 2009
How do they feel nearly 70 years on?

It鈥檚 70 years since the outbreak of the Second World War and in the seven years that followed, thousands of young women were widowed, many after only a year or two of marriage. Olive Worton was widowed at 23; Phyllis Clemens, at 27. Both were left to cope as single mothers with small sons. What impact did this have on the rest of their lives? And how do they feel nearly seventy years on? Sally Williams visited both women to hear their memories.
