Elizabeth II has been Britain's head of state since 1952 when she succeeded her father George VI to the throne. As Channel 4 brings out a series of five programmes, each documenting a challenging time in the monarch's life, Jane discusses how British society has transformed during the new Elizabethan age听for the better and for the worse. She is joined by the writer听A. N. Wilson and Marion Milne, series producer of Channel 4's The Queen. 听How has the role of the monarch changed? What are the factors that have influenced the changes? What impact has the changing face of the monarchy had on British society?
