Britain's boozing culture 19th January 2010
What should be done to tackle it?

A lot of us like a drinkÌý- unfortunately too many of us like it just that little bit too much. Stories of Britain’s obsession with booze are well known; adults in Scotland are drinking the equivalent of 46 bottles of vodka each year, UK teenagers come second in a European table of binge-drinkers- only Bulgarians drink more. So what to do? As part of our ‘Winning Women’s Votes’ series we ask how, and if, we need to change Britain’s drinking culture. Jane is joined by Professor Ian Gilmore, Chairman of the UK Alcohol Health Alliance and by Dr Fiona Measham, Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Lancaster University, specialising in alcohol and gender.
