125 years of the Mothers' Union Wednesday 15 August 2001
In 1876 a vicar's wife named Mary Sumner in rural Hampshire started what is now known as the Mothers' Union with the aim of supporting motherhood.

Now, 125 years later, and with its aims broadened slightly, it boasts a million members in over 60 countries.
Martha talks to the worldwide President, Trish Heywood, and the archivist, Cordelia Moyse, about how The Mothers' Union has developed.
