Dame Ninette de Valois, who died earlier this year, has been described as one of the greatest British women of the 20th century.
The founder of British ballet, she is responsible for more than a hundred works which have been shown all over the world. A formidable taskmaster, many lived in terror of her.
Barry Wordsworth, Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet Orchestra, and Monica Mason, Assistant Director of the Royal Ballet Covent Garden, reminisce about their time working with 'Madam', as she was always known.
