Domestic Violence is a big problem in Latin America.
According to one report 52% of married Nicaraguan women have been abused by their husband. This is partly a result of the culture of machismo that exists in many Latin American countries.
One group of men from Nicaragua has started a project to help men to 'unlearn' their macho behaviour. They suggest taking the focus away from women as victims and concentrating on changing the attitudes of men.
Jenni finds out how the project is going with Andres Herrera, Vice President of the Nicaragua-based Association of Men Against Violence and Nicola Harwin from Women's Aid. Men Aren't From Mars: Masculinities and non-violence in Latin America and the Caribbean is touring Europe until 19th October 2001.
