Three quarters of women get period pains at some time in their lives.
For some they're so serious that it stops them from working for at least a day each month.
Sometimes they're connected with a physiological problem, but if they're not the choice of methods to alleviate the pain is pretty limited - the pill being one of the more popular solutions.
So why is it that in this day and age, there still isn't a simple cure if you don't want to take hormones?
Claudia Hammond has been finding out about a few new ideas. For more information please call the Radio 4 Actionline on 0800 044 044.
