It's official - economic jitters mean breaking out the red lipstick in an attempt to keep smiling.

Last week cosmetics joined hem lengths as indicators of a bust as US lipstick sales soar despite their recession.
With Britain's high streets booming should we pay any attention to such chilly, if colourful, portents of doom?
Jenni is joined by Economist Diane Coyle and Professor Pat Thane of the University of London, to explore the world of economic indicators from skirt lengths to doughnut sales and asks if women really rush out and buy cosmetics in a downturn.
