FANYs 3 Friday 22 February 2002
The third in our series which looks at the lives of some of the women joined the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry during WW2. An all-female corps who still bear the distinctive acronym, the FANYs.

When war broke out, 19 year old Norah Grajnert decided to 'do her bit'. At her interview the FANY's Commandant had realised that Norah spoke excellent French, as did many of the thousands of Polish soldiers who'd been evacuated from France after escaping from Poland.
They were encamped at special bases in Scotland, and Norah was asked to join the large FANY unit that had been specially formed for the Poles' welfare. She talked to Martyn Cox about her experiences there.
