Panic Attacks Wednesday 20 February 2002
What do Queen Victoria and Charles Darwin have in common? It is believed that they both suffered from panic attacks and they aren't the only ones. One in three of us are now victims of these attacks - suddenly overwhelmed by a terrifying feeling which can leave us gasping for breath and our hearts pounding. But why do some of us shrug this experience off, while for others it is the start of a vicious circle of attack after attack, convinced that they are going to die?

Paul Salkovskis, Professor of Clinical Psychology and Applied Science at the Institute of Psychiatry, Alice Neville, founder of PAX, a self-help panic attack group and someone who has suffered from panic attacks when she was younger and Christina Paiva, a current sufferer of panic attacks join Jenni to talk about this frightening experience.
