Britain and the US are on the verge of taking action against Iraq. But what would life be like in Iraq post Saddam Hussein? In the 1970s and 80s under Saddam Hussein women's lot improved and Iraq could be said to have a liberated and highly educated female population.
But the regime has since shifted its attitude towards women. Saddam has begun appearing on television praising women's domesticity and encouraging them back into the home during this period of high unemployment and economic crisis. There is also a high rate of prostitution.
Martha talks to Nadia Al-Ali from Exeter University and Suma Al Baghdadi, a member of the Iraqi Congress about the future for women in Iraq.
