According to medical charity, Birth Defects Foundation, the last five years has seen a 50% rise in the number of children born with defects.
But what is the cause of this massive rise? Some have suggested that it is the behaviour of mothers that is to blame. Others that the health of the prospective father which is at issue.
Jenni talks to Philip Baker, Professor of Maternal and Foetal Health at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester.
