Some mothers, for whatever reason, may feel they cannot keep their babies and that there is nowhere to go for help.
An organisation in Germany came up with a solution, baby banks. Places where women could drop off their babies, knowing that they would receive professional care and the mother could remain anonymous.
Now supporters of the baby banks want to take this a step further. New laws are being proposed that will allow women to give birth in hospital with complete anonymity.
Jenni talks to Sandy Webster, Director of the Foundling Support Group in the UK, Dr Anita Pavlovic of Oxford Brookes University and Andrea Beck, Political Consultant for FDP in Germany and asks what these new laws could mean for abandoned children and their mothers.
