South Africa Thursday 27 June 2002
This special programme from Cape Town celebrates the achievements and examines the challenges facing South African women today.

For years, Helen Suzman was the lone voice of opposition to apartheid in Parliament. Jenni talks to her, as well as her modern-day equivalent.
She also talks to Rebecca Malope, South Africa's Queen of Gospel and Nelson Mandela's favourite singer.
South Africa is also a country with deadly problems. It has more HIV positive people than any other country in the world, and so far the government has done little to help its citizens. So what are the women on the ground doing to help themselves? Jenni reports from a township where one in four have the AIDS virus, but have not given up hope.
