When the 2nd World War broke out the safety of children became a priority. Some went to live with families and others, sometimes whole schools were evacuated to stately homes.
A National Trust property in Hampshire, Hinton Ampner, was one and became the home to Portsmouth High School. Some of the former pupils of the school have traced each other and now meet up once a year to relive their memories of midnight feasts.
