Almost 600 years ago a married woman in her sixties arrived in Rome after an incredible journey from Kings Lynn in Norfolk across Europe.
Like thousands of her time she was on pilgrimage to some of the holiest sites of the medieval age. On her journey she endured hardship and risked her reputation.
Historian Sarah Hopper and medieval cookery expert Sue King join Sheila to discuss what women went on pilgrimage and what life was like along the way. Sarah Hopper, "To Be A Pilgrim: The Medieval Pilgrimage Experience", Sutton Publishing Ltd Tel. 01453 731114, ISBN 0750926201
Sue King will be doing demonstrations at The Canterbury Tales in Canterbury from 26-30 August.
