We tend to think of Jane Austen's muslin dresses, cravats and cotton nighties as quintessentially English products. But in fact the British textile industry is a product as much of the East as of the West.
Jenny Balfour-Paul from the University of Exeter and Rosemary Crill from the V & A join Sheila to explore India's influence on England's fabric, dyes and fashion. Jenny Balfour-Paul, Indigo, published by British Museum Press; ISBN: 0714125504 Rosemary Crill will be giving a lecture on the 27th August 2002 at the British Library. Information: 020 7412 7332 Trading Places exhibition at the British Library until 22nd September 2002
