Every year some 35,000 women attempt suicide and when a woman tries to kill herself, more often than not her chosen method involves pills. Overdose rates are on the increase.
After an attempted suicide, women are taken to busy Accident and Emergency departments, which are often too overstretched to give them the sensitive psychological help they need
St Thomas's hospital in London is pioneering a new approach with a dedicated team within the A&E department. Caroline Swinburne visited it but spoke first to Jane and Carrie who have both taken overdoses.
