Female GPs Thursday 12 September 2002
In the 1980's there was a subtle shift in GP practice. Before that you had to struggle really hard if you wanted to see a woman. And then the balance changed.

Today the majority of GPs are female and the trend will prbably continue. Most medical schools will begin the new term with an intake of 60 per cent female, 40 per cent male students.
Lesley Hilton followed Dr Debra Newell for a day at her practice in Leeds. Like so many of her female colleagues she works part time.
Dr Pauline Brimblecombe and Dr Gillian Braunold join Jenni to discuss the impact that women GP's have had on their profession.
