Christina Lamb Friday 13 December 2002
Christina Lamb; photo taken by Caroline Forbes
Christina Lamb had first visited Afghanistan at the age of 21 where for two years she reported on the war between the Mujaheddin and the Soviets.

Christina returned there following the terrorist attacks of September 11th to find out what had become of the people and places that had marked her life as a young graduate.
Her journey brought her in touch with the people no one else has written about: the abandoned victims of almost a quarter of a century.
Christina Lamb joins Martha to talk about her new book The Sewing Circles of Herat - a deeply personal and moving memoir of her time in Afghanistan.
'The Sewing Circles of Herat' is available in Hardcover; published by Harper Collins; ISBN: 000714251X
