Polygamy in Malaysia Monday 24 March 2003
This month in Malaysia an alliance of 12 women's groups - the Coalition on Women's Rights in Islam - has launched a campaign against polygamy. The official statistics say only 5 per cent of marriages there are polygamous, but the movement believes it's much more widespread.

It's also extremely difficult to get a divorce from a polygamous marriage. Miriam Abdul's husband took a second wife half his age after 15 years of marriage - she did eventually divorce him by paying him off - an option only open to women who can afford it.
Myriam Abdul speaks to Jenni on how hurtful it was to be cast aside and Zainah Anwar talks about the campaign she launched this month to encourage monogamy.
