Mary Gladstone Thursday 24 April 2003
She was a woman at the heart of politics before women had the vote - with her own office at 10 Downing Street.

Mary Gladstone controlled access to her famous father and according to biographer Sheila Gooddie was his indispensable special advisor.
So why did she risk giving it all up to marry a man ten years her junior and did she know about her father's infamous late night visits to 'rescue' London's prostitutes?
Sheila Gooddie joins Jenni to talk about the book.
'Mary Gladstone - a Gentle Rebel' by Sheila Gooddie, published by John Wiley and Sons Ltd; ISBN: 0470854235
