Domestic Violence Wednesday 18 June 2003
Today the government's consultation paper on domestic violence was launched.

There has been much speculation as to what's in it. Anominity for victims, better enforced restraining orders, carrying possible custodial penalties, a register of persistent offenders and an automatic charge of murder not manslaughter for a man who kills his wife.
Harriet Harman, the Solicitor General, has played a leading role in pressing for reform and joins Jenni to tell her what is actually in the document.
The research carried out at King's College London suggests that women are perpetrators of domestic violence at least as often as men, although women are more likely than men to seek medical treatment for injury.
Stephen Fitzgerald from Mankind Initiative and Jill Radford, Professor of Social Sciences at Teeside University join Jenni to discuss whether the government's emphasis on the female is biased?
