The Disappeared Tuesday 30 September 2003
When an armed gang dragged Jean McConville from her home in Belfast in 1972, they told her crying children she would be gone for a few hours. They never saw her again. Jean became one of the Disappeared, those from Northern Ireland's Catholic community killed by the IRA whose bodies were not returned to their families.

Now, as a body thought to be Jean's has been recovered, Jenni talks to her daughter Helen McKendry about her campaign to learn the truth about her mother's death ? and how the repercussions of her mother's disappearance have affected her life.
Susan McKay, Northern Editor of The Sunday Tribune, a newspaper serving the whole of Ireland, also joins Woman's Hour to discuss why the Disappeared are so significant.
