Maternity Services 10 years on Changing Childbirth was the name of an all-party parliamentary report that appeared 10 years ago.
Its approach was "woman-centred" and it said what women were thinking: that pregnancy is not an illness and that most women should be helped to give birth with as little intervention as possible.
Women were also promised more choice over where they gave birth and over the type of delivery they had. But we still hear of women traumatised by their experiences of birth.
So do women have more say in where and how they give birth? Are midwives experienced and trained enough to make home deliveries or small midwife run units a safe option?
