HIV Funding and Gender Equality Tuesday 18 November 2003
Kousalya was married at a young age and shortly afterwards became ill, testing positive for HIV. Her husband's family knew of his positive status but wanted him to marry and kept it from her. Later he committed suicide leaving her with the stigma of carrying the virus alone.

She tells Jenni how she's channelled her energy into setting-up the Positive Women's Network, which offers support to women in a similar position with HIV throughout Southern India.
A new report has found that however much money is channelled into HIV prevention programmes, unless more is done to promote equalities between the sexes then the global fight against the virus is likely to fail.
Miranda Lewis from the VSO and author of Gendering Aids and Sadia Chowdhury from the World Bank join Jenni to discuss.
