In the run up to Christmas we're expected to spend three thousand million pounds on various trinkets. Two major exhibitions of contemporary jewellery suggest that we now prefer subtle bands of silver and platinum. Is it true? Or do we all secretly envy Posh Spice and that 拢;5000 rock on her finger?
Michelle Lyons spoke to Fiona Hopper, owner of Hopper's Jewellers in Grantham.
Jenni is joined by Tony Gordon, curator of Dazzle exhibition at Manchester Town Hall and by Professor Marcia Pointon, former lecturer in Art History at Manchester University and currently writing a book on the culture and mythology of jewellery.
Dazzle exhibition is on at Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square, Manchester until 3rd January 2004
