The Gansey is a kind of jumper traditionally knitted for fishermen by their mothers, wives and sweethearts. Each one tells a tale - woven into the complex pattern is the story of that man's village and family.
Now the centuries old art is in danger of dying out, less men are going to sea, fewer women have time to knit and hi-tech modern clothing has overtaken the tried and tested gansey.
But help is at hand; the patterns are being collected together to make sure they don't become lost forever, and are being made available to knitters everywhere.
