It's sixteen years since routine cervical screening was introduced in England and Wales and it's thought that some twelve thousand women owe their lives to the programme.
But still only four in five women go to the doctor for a regular smear test so why aren't the rest persuaded, and could a home testing kit be the answer? It's an idea that's being investigated by Cancer Research UK at the moment.
But would it be as effective as the traditional smear test, and would it be enough to convince those women who currently stay away?
Anne Szarewski from Cancer Research UK and Julietta Patnick, the Director of the NHS Screening programme join Jenni to discuss.
