Caroline Aherne did it with Mrs Merton, Victoria Wood and Julie Walters did it in their skit Acorn Antiques. Even men who impersonate us tend to parody "women of a certain age".
So is it easier to be a funny middle-aged woman - than an overtly young comedienne?
