Mildred Bruce was born into an aristocratic family in 1895 and from a very early age was a speed freak. She galloped her pony and when she moved onto cars she 听was the first girl to appear in court on a speeding charge - she was fifteen.听
Mildred听flew solo around the world and celebrated her 81st birthday doing a loop the loop. By the time she died in 1990 she had set 17 world records for cars, speedboats and aeroplanes.
Angharad Law spoke to Carey Chapman who now lives in her house and collects her memorabilia and to the aviator Caroline Gough Cooper. She told the story of how the round the world flight began on a shopping trip in London's Bond Street .
