City farm 31听May 2004
How children find out about life on a farm

Thirty years ago, the children's writer and now children's laureate,听Michael Morpurgo, with his wife, Clare, set up Farms for City Children. They were supported by their neighbour and friend, the late听poet laureate, Ted Hughes. The idea was to give city children the chance to see what it's like to live and work on a farm for a week.

Since then 50,000 young people from schools all over the country have stayed at one of three farms in North Devon, Pembrokeshire and Gloucestershire.

Felicity Finch joins Clare Morpurgo and a group of nine year olds from Gloucester Primary School in Peckham, South London for their week at Elizabethan manor house, Wick Court.
